Farmer’s Field Day

Last November 12, Department of Agriculture in Region 10 toured selected media practitioners in a field tour at Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

The place is so nice and the cold is superb! I slightly hate myself. It is so ironic that I haven’t visited this place before when I have a lot of friends who are schooling at the Claveria-based State College. Aside from that, Claveria is just beside my hometown! Goodness, Irene.

Based on what I learned from a town folk that I conversed with, Claveria is considered Baguio of Misamis Oriental. Imagine, we arrived there 10:00am that is no doubt very warm in the city but yet, we felt chilly cold!

The group headed to the site of Research Center for Hilly Land Development at Lanise town for the 12th Farmer’s Field Day and Techno Forum.

According to the Ms. Clotilde B. Jumalon, center chief, every two years, farmers from different provinces flock in this area to celebrate and learn about the latest technology in farming. This year, the theme was “Teknolohiya sa Organikong Pagpanguma: Padayunon alang sa Kalambuan Ta!” The theme basically sends the message of encouraging farmers to use technology in organic farming, for it is a potential tool for overall success.

By the way, Research Center for Hilly Land Development (formerly called Claveria Experiment Station) is an agribusiness development station responsible in conducting research and development activities with major emphasis on technology commercialization of various commodities.
