Kahimunan Reg’l Trade Fair 2015
I am so grateful to cover the Kahimunan Regional Trade Fair opening last August 22 at SM City Activity Center. This fair is organized by Department of Trade and Industry – Region 10 and an exhibit of best products of Northern Mindanao. It is so great that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) coming from provinces of Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Occidental participated.
The thing that amazed me is that our Indigenous Peoples composing of Manobo and Higaonon of Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte, and tribal groups in Bukidnon also involved in this kind of activity and brought their products from their far places. DTI-10 said that these IP MSMEs, who are also members of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Communities under DTI, have had hard time in selling their products because of the distance. Thus, this Kahimunan has been made as their avenue to explore and experience selling in a mall that has a quite a number of people traffic and definitely a larger market.
Though they are from far and some of them are from really remote places but yet, their products are so good that I was also convinced to purchase a few.
The products exhibit is DTI-10’s participation for CDO Fiesta and it will continue until the end of the month. So, to all Kagay-anons and visitors, let us have a taste of our own products and visit SM City for Kahimunan Fair! Through doing so, you could also contribute to the improvement of livelihood of our IP communities.
“Kahimunan” is a Lumad word for gathering. Thus, DTI-10’s Kahimunan is a gathering to celebrate the creations of Northern Mindanao.
